Ever wondered how the professionals are able to bring a panel back to life without using excessive filler? Here it is - the 9" Metal Shrinking Disc.
Made from stainless steel, the disc is designed to fit any standard 9" sander/grinder/polisher and works particularly well on large areas like bonnets, doors, guards and roofs.
The disc enables you to shrink back overworked and damaged areas on a panel and repair them like new. You will find there is better heat placement whilst using a shrinking disc and therefore the heat can be dispersed accurately at the centre of each high spot, minimising heat in a low area and avoid panel warping.
The key to shrinking metal is based on the heating-cooling method. This process involves heating of metal through friction between the disc and the panel, causing the metal to expand. The surrounding cooler metal will help restrict a lot of heat, then by applying a wet cloth, spraying water or cool air immediately over the worked area, the heat is further contained and cooled rapidly, allowing the metal to contract and shrink.
Recommended operating speed for the 9" disc is 3000-6000 RPM.
